Chess began as chaturanga in India, travelled through Persia where it became shatranj, and that's exactly where the Urdu name comes from. It's played in basically every country on earth now. What's genuinely hard to find in Pakistan is a weighted wooden set rather than the light plastic ones, and it completely changes how the game feels.
